adidas
The history of modern adidas tennis footwear goes all the way back to 1963, when the 3-Stripes introduced the first ever leather shoe to be seen on-court.
Championed by company founder Adi Dassler’s son, Horst, the shoe’s sturdy construction was a significant departure from the traditional canvas plimsoles that the brand had produced in the past.
Plimsoles remained the footwear of choice for most players of the time, but that soon changed when adi recruited French pro Robert Haillet to wear their new creation, emblazoning his face on the tongue and sending him out to show the shoe’s potential to the world.
Sound familiar? That’s right, the Haillet became the legendary Stan Smith, with the American replacing the recently retired Frenchman in 1971.
Since then, it’s been a constant flow of innovation from adidas, and a never-ending stream of star endorsement. From signature shoes for Rod Laver and Billie Jean King to design partnerships with Stella McCartney and Pharrell Williams, adidas have always set the standard in both performance and style.
Their latest range includes the legendary Barricade with its unrivalled stability, along with the light and fast Ubersonic. Or, if you prefer more of an all-rounder, check out the CourtJam and CourtFlash ranges. Options are available for a variety of surfaces, of course, and you can take your pick from adi’s superb midsole cushioning, whether that’s Bounce, Boost, or Lightstrike.
All Court
All court tennis shoes are designed to perform across a variety of court surfaces, making them versatile footwear options for tennis players. These shoes feature an outsole with a universal tread pattern to provide the right balance of grip and give on both hard and clay courts, and even grass. Additionally, they often have reinforced toe caps for added durability, considering the high-wear nature of tennis. Cushioning and stability are prioritised to support swift lateral movements and quick pivots. All court tennis shoes are ideal for players who play on different surfaces or for those who prefer a multi-purpose tennis shoe.
